About VeganSpots
Animals want to live.We don’t need to eat them.
VeganSpots is a map of where to eat vegan: 100% vegan restaurants and cafés, vegetarian places, and every other place with vegan dishes, with what to order at each one. We built it so eating vegan is easy, wherever you are.
Why vegan
Choosing plants is one of the simplest ways to do less harm, and you get to do it at every meal.
For animals
More than 80 billion land animals are killed for food every year, and billions of fish. They feel pain and fear, and they want to live. Eating vegan means not paying for any of it.

Raising animals takes about 80% of the world’s farmland. If everyone ate plants, we’d need 75% less farmland, leaving room for forests and wildlife.

Dietitians say a well-planned vegan diet, with vitamin B12, is healthy at every stage of life and can help prevent some diseases.

The easier it is to eat vegan, the more people do it, and the more of them stick with it. But eating out vegan is often guesswork: listings for places that closed years ago, “vegan options” that turn out to be a side salad, menus that changed since anyone last looked.
VeganSpots aims to be the most accurate vegan map there is. We check places against their own menus, list what to order, and show where every detail came from. It’s free, you don’t need an account, and the data is open for anyone to use.
How it works
We start from open maps
Everywhere in the world, we list the places OpenStreetMap’s contributors tag as vegan or vegetarian. In the regions we cover fully, we bring in every food place, from OpenStreetMap, Overture Maps and city open data.
Regions we cover fully today: Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec. More will follow.
An AI agent checks each place
It reads the place’s own website and menu first, then trusted sources like vegan guides and local news. A chain is checked once for all its locations. In the regions we cover fully, the agent goes through every place on its own; elsewhere, it checks the places visitors suggest or report.
Each place gets a level, and what to order
The level is the colour you see on the map, and the place’s page lists what to order there.
- 100% veganEverything on the menu is vegan.
- VegetarianNo meat or fish, and vegan dishes too.
- Vegan optionsServes meat, and has vegan dishes too.
Places with nothing vegan stay off the map, but search still finds them, so you can tell us when that changes.
It keeps checking
In the regions we cover fully, places are checked again regularly, and sooner when something is uncertain. Anywhere, a visitor’s report gets a place checked again right away. Each place’s page shows where every detail came from and when it was last checked.
Nothing without a source
A place only gets a level when a source says so, and a dish is only listed when its source names it.
Help keep it right
Suggest a place we’re missing. The agent checks it right away, and adds it once a source confirms its vegan food.
Report a change. On a place’s page, tell us it closed, changed its hours or dropped its vegan options, and it’s checked again right away.
Write a review. Reviews are checked before they’re published.
Verified fixes can also go back to OpenStreetMap, reviewed by a person each time, so every map that uses it gets them too.
